World Student Christian Federation North American Regional Assembly 2011
Where: Chicago, Illinois
When: October 14-18, 2011
Apply by: September 30th
The World Student Christian Federation (WSCF) is a global ecumenical federation of Student Christian Movements which seeks to end injustice and oppression by empowering students to be agents of constructive transformation through grass-roots, student-led activism, theological reflection, study and analysis of social and cultural processes, and solidarity and action across the boundaries of culture, ethnicities, sexual and gender identities, and economic situations.
WSCF will be holding their North American Regional Assembly this year on the topic of “Overcoming Violence”. Students from Canada and the United States will analyze why violence is such an all-pervasive element of society and what can be done to overcome it at local, national and international levels. Highlights will include two students from the Middle East Region of the WSCF speaking about their perspective on violence and war in their context, as well as a water pilgrimage to facilitate conversation on water justice.
In addition to theological reflection on the topic, students will engage in lecture-style presentations, workshops, interactive and artistic sessions, as well as experiential learning through supplemental visits, conversation and analysis with local communities and projects on the subject of water justice and how water is a matter of violence and peacemaking.
The conference will begin at 6PM on Friday, October 14th, and conclude at 12PM on Tuesday, October 18th. Early bird registration costs $225, and $275 for late registration. The registration fee covers WSCF membership, room, and board. Participation is open to Unitarian Universalist students.
