Planning activities in your congregation, attending Spring Seminar, or participating in events at the United Nations – sometimes these things require funds. But don’t let that stop you from having big dreams! Here are a few grants and scholarships you can apply for. Feel free to ask us for advice or help in applying.

1. Raise money in your congregation

Your first stop for securing monetary support for your activities and travels should be your congregation. Work with your Youth Advisor to develop a campaign to raise money. For example, you could hold a bake sale or an open mic.

For recommendations on how to conduct grassroots fundraising, we recommend you take a look at the Fundraising Guide, published by The Friendship Ambassador’s Foundation (FAF). It is primarily intended for participants of the Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations, but its lessons can be applied to many other situations as well.

2. Registration Scholarship to Attend Spring Seminar

Submissions due by: mid April

Each year the UU-UNO releases a few scholarships to help cover the registration costs of attending the Spring Seminar. Check the UU-UNO website around the beginning of March to find the application.

3. Katie Tyson Fund for Youth and Young Adult Ministry Grant Program

Submissions due by: April 1st, October 1st

Find more information and the application here.

The range of projects that this grant supports is fairly wide and you can ask for up to $2000. We suggest you apply for a scholarship to attend Spring Seminar, but if you can’t join us this April, then consider developing a UU-UNO project in your congregation and submitting your proposal to the grant program for the next cycle, due October 1st. The UUA Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministries is eager to support Youth with interesting and new ideas!

4. Youth and Young Adult GA Scholarship

Submissions due by: April 20th

Find more information and the application here.

This scholarship is intended to support congregations sending Youth and Young Adults to GA, for whom attendance is financially difficult. It will cover the registration fee and up to $500 of your GA-related expenses! All you need to do is fill out the application form, register for GA, and write a one page statement explaining why you want to attend and why you need a scholarship.

5. Youth Project Grant Program

Submissions due by: April 1st, August 1st

Find more information and the application here.

Again, just like the Katie Tyson Fund, you can also apply to this program to fund UU-UNO projects in your congregation. To receive the grant, you must pair with an adult advisor (we recommend your Adult Envoy!) in your congregation or district. You can ask for up to $2000 and will need to write a more in-depth description of your project, as well as request a letter of support from your minister.

6. Scholarships for Youth and Young Adults of Color to Register for the 9th Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations

Find more information and the application here.

We are pleased to offer scholarships for Youth and Young Adults of Color to register for this year’s 9th Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations, as well as a special wrap-up session at the UU-UNO on August 6th.
